Equiom is proud to sponsor Relay for Life Jersey for second year

Wednesday 08 June 2016

Equiom will sponsor Relay for Life Jersey on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 June.

Taking place at the FB Fields, La Grande Route de Saint-Clément, the annual event invites teams of eight to 15 people to raise funds, through sponsorship, for Cancer Research UK by walking in relay continuously for 24 hours.

Equiom’s Global Business Development Director Richard Tribe is a member of the ‘Relay For Life Jersey’ Committee. He commented:

‘Relay For Life is a family event which brings the whole community together for something really special. There’s nothing else like it on the Island – the atmosphere will be electric and everyone involved is guaranteed to have a great time. It will very much be a celebration of life, with a mix of music and games adding to the party spirit and a variety of entertainment throughout the night. In addition to raising much-needed funds by way of sponsorship, Relay is intended to celebrate those who have beaten cancer, support those who are currently on their cancer journey and remember those we have lost.’

Funds raised from the event will benefit local residents directly by funding Cancer Research UK’s Research Centre based at Southampton Hospital.

Shelley Thompson, Cancer Research UK’s Senior Local Fundraising Manager for Dorset and the Channel Islands, explained:

‘Should an individual be diagnosed with cancer in the Channel Islands, they are likely to visit Southampton at some point during their cancer journey for treatment and/or appointments. This is also the place where they may be offered a clinical trial, should this be appropriate for their particular cancer. Supporters of Relay For Life Jersey will help to fund local research which will one day benefit Channel Islanders directly.’

Relay weekend will open with a Survivors’ Lap of Honour involving local people who have beaten cancer, supported by congratulatory cheers of encouragement from fellow participants and members of the community.

The Relay committee has set a target of 25 teams of approximately 10 people, with a goal to raise £50,000 for Cancer Research UK. To sign up, visit the Jersey Relay page on the Cancer Research UK website, or find ‘JerseyRelayForLife’ on Facebook.
