Our Global CEO, Sheila Dean is based at our head office in Douglas and leads our 390 staff across our jurisdictions and determines our strategic direction and growth strategy.
Equiom's experienced and highly qualified teams, including trustees, lawyers and accountants, offer services in specialist sectors including trust, corporate, property, family office, eBusiness, yachting, aviation, crewing, tax and VAT. The personal touch and consistent outstanding service are key to our approach.
Equiom's reputation as an employer of choice attracts staff who are ready to work in a dynamic business led by a stable and entrepreneurial management team. This year Equiom is sponsoring the award for Young Achiever of the Year at the Isle of Man Newspapers Awards for Excellence. We are known for nurturing our young people to build their experience and develop their career by providing study support, mentoring and management training.
In 2014, for example, Equiom employed six school leavers in the Isle of Man office, with the intention of providing them with valuable ‘roots up’ experience, training and study opportunities. We have also employed numerous graduates, helping them to achieve appropriate professional qualifications.
Sophie Campbell, Chantal Quayle and David Lovelady, all born and educated in the Isle of Man, are young Equiom employees, with varying levels of experience and academic qualifications, who have developed their careers with Equiom. Here are their stories:
‘I joined Equiom’s business development team in the Isle of Man office in October 2013 after graduating from university. I have learned the key principles of new business take-on and I work closely with new clients and intermediaries across all of Equiom’s sectors. I recently qualified as a Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) and I am currently undertaking the STEP advanced certificate in UK Tax for International Clients. In January 2015, I was seconded to Equiom’s Jersey office to help expand the business development function and I have since become a permanent employee of Equiom Jersey. In December 2015 I was promoted to Senior Officer – Business Development.
‘I have attended the Malta iGaming Seminar (MiGS), iGaming Asia Conference and Exhibition (IGA) in Macau, the European Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition (EBACE) in Switzerland, Excellence in iGaming (EIG) in Berlin and the International Casino Exhibition (ICE) in London on several occasions.’
Sophie’s line manager Richard Tribe, Global Business Development Director, says:
‘Sophie has always displayed a very positive attitude towards gaining knowledge and broadening her experience and is always willing to accept new challenges and responsibilities. She epitomises the drive and work ethic that Equiom seeks from its junior staff and she has a clear career path in mind which Equiom is whole-heartedly willing to support.’
‘I joined Equiom's Isle of Man office in January 2014, having obtained a first class BA (Hons) degree in International Business & Chinese. I work in the business development team in a similar role to Sophie. I was seconded to Equiom's Hong Kong office for three months in early 2015 and, having demonstrated my capabilities, moved to Hong Kong to take up a permanent position later that year. While continuing my business development responsibilities, I now also work as part of the global Corporate Communications team (based in the Isle of Man), co-ordinating corporate events in Asia and helping with Asian PR activities, marketing literature and the website. In December 2015 I was promoted to Senior Officer – Business Development.
‘I am a Mandarin speaker and I assist with translation and interpretation services for the business when required. I also speak French and Spanish and study Chinese in my free time, with the intention of completing my HSK Mandarin professional proficiency language exams in Hong Kong. I have recently qualified as a Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) and I am now studying towards the STEP advanced certificate in UK Tax for International Clients.
‘I have attended the Monaco Yacht Show, Asian Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition (ABACE) in Shanghai and the Isle of Man Government and business delegation China trips to represent Equiom on several occasions.’
Debby Davidson, Group Business Development Director in Asia, says:
‘Chantal has an inspiring, can-do attitude and her enthusiasm and positive energy is contagious. She thrives under pressure and is pro-active and commercially astute.’
‘I joined Equiom in September 2014 after completing my AS Levels. I had decided I’d like to start a career and take professional qualifications, so I joined Equiom as an Assistant Trust Administrator. As a junior, my role was to assist my team with the day-to-day administration of its client portfolio. With the support of the team, my skillset quickly developed and I was promoted to Trust Administrator in March 2016. Since then, I have gained a great deal of confidence and I am now beginning to take responsibility for my own client portfolio.
‘I am half way through my STEP qualification, having completed three exams. I have also attended careers fairs with our HR team to demonstrate the career opportunities at Equiom.’
Fiona Noon, Senior Manager within the Isle of Man Client Services team, speaks highly of David:
‘David is naturally inquisitive and a great team player. He always demonstrates enthusiasm, a willingness to learn and grow his knowledge and understanding of the client structures under Equiom’s management.’
